13 tips for Eating Less

For the month of February I’m working on eating less. These are things that are helping me. Give some of them a try and see what works for you.

1. Drink a glass of water before every meal it makes you feel full faster.
2. Use a smaller plate or bowl. Since my husband has been gone I have been using a kids plate or bowl at every meal with the kids. I don’t put as much on my plate since it is smaller and I rarely feel the need to go back for seconds.
3. Chew. Eat slowly. Your mind needs time to realize you are full.
4. Write down what you are eating. Sometimes when I have to write it I don’t want to eat it anymore.
5. Chew on a peace of gum. I always want to munch in the afternoon. If I have a piece of gum in my mouth, I don’t.
6. Choose food with more density. For example eat an orange instead of drinking a glass of orange juice. You will fill fuller longer and it is less calories.
7. Eat every few hours, so you are never starving and over eat.
8. I have a rule not to eat after 8pm. If I do eat after 8pm I always make poor choices, so I just don’t.
9. When you go out to eat. Put half of it in a to go box.
10. Pay attention to what you are eating and listen to your body. If you are watching TV, reading a book, or on the computer. You may miss your body signaling you are full and just keep eating until it is all gone.
11. Cover at least half of your plate with vegetables at dinner.
12. Brush teeth after a meal. You won’t want to snack on anything with the mint fresh taste in your mouth.
13. Think about why you are eating? Are you hungry or are you an emotional eater. Do you eat when you are stressed, sad, angry, etc?

  1. I like your ideas. Here are some that have helped me: Spend all of your money really fast at the beginning of the month so you can’t afford any more food. Accidentally use salt instead of sugar while cooking. Don’t go to the bathroom. It just makes you hungry again. Sit next to someone with gas or bad body odor. Think about that woman with the thick mustache. Imagine one of her hairs in your food. Try to eat so much at lunch that you aren’t hungry for dinner. Swallow lots of air. Remodel your house so you don’t have a kitchen any more. Spend so much time on facebook that you forget about anything else.
